Fall Young Artists Academy: Andy Warhol

Something exciting happens when you layer art history with creative hands-on projects. The LWAC: Young Artists Academy invites your First-Fifth graders to join us on Monday nights as we introduce your young artist to history’s most famous artists and inspire them to create their own masterpieces!

Dates/Times: Mondays 5-6pm, October 2 - December 11

October 2, 2023- Paul Klee (Block Printing)
We’ll have fun learning about stamp blocking, color, and architectural painting by creating our own Paul Klee inspired artwork.

October 9, 2023- Leonardo Da Vinci (Renaissance Art)
No artist better represents the Renaissance than Leonardo Da Vinci. By mixing the old with the new, our young artist’s will learn how to draw the soft lines of Mona Lisa’s face with a parody of what Mona Lisa would be posing like today. The rich opportunity for creativity and problem solving will make this art project shine!

October 16, 2023- Jackson Pollock (Splatter Paint)
Jackson Pollock was a great artist of the Abstract Expressionist Movement who radicalized painting with his “drip style” technique that revolutionized art for future generations. This activity will bring our art to life with motion, energy, and spontaneous fluidity!

October 23, 2023- Mary Blair (Mixed Media)
“It’s a world of laughter, it’s a world of tears. It’s a world of hopes and a world of fears. There’s so much that we share that it’s time we’re aware it’s a small world after all.” Disney illustrator, Mary Blair, is the brilliant designer behind the “It’s a Small Word” ride at Disney theme parks. We will be creating a mixed media project inspired by Mary Blair and the artistic legacy she left through this beloved ride.

October 30, 2023- Andy Warhol (Pop Art)
Warhol’s Pop Art style is bright & fun and is a wonderful inspiration for young and old artists. With Halloween tomorrow night, let’s mix the fun colors of fall with the pop of color brought to us by none other than Andy Warhol.

November 6, 2023- Alma Thomas (Mid-Century Modern Visual Artist)
Tonight, using bright colors and patterns, we will be taking Mrs. Thomas’s lead and making a mosaic inspired piece of their own. 

November 13, 2023- Frida Kahlo (Watercolor Portrait)
Frida Kahlo is one of Mexico's most famous artists and known for creating a lot of self portraits with animals and nature items! Tonight, we are going to draw our own self-portraits with correct facial proportions. Then, continue learning about the art element of Value to create our backgrounds with nature items like animals, bugs, flowers etc.

November 27, 2023- Pablo Picasso (Modern Abstract Art)
Pablo Picasso is famous and revered for his experimental approach to art, often painting a common object or person from lots of different angles in one picture in a stye we call Cubism. Tonight for our art project, we will use Cubist style to make drawings of faces.

December 4, 2023- George Seurat (Pointillism)
George Seurat is best known for his use of Pointillism and tonight, we will use Pointillism, radial line and pattern designs to create our own unique winter snowflake.

December 11, 2023-  Grandma Moses (Illustration)
Our young Artists will create a winter scene with three houses while learning about art master, Grandma Moses. We will be combining acrylic paint and other mixed media to make this scene come to life in a winter wonderland.
