creating a tiny world
with kate schroeder

Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22, 2023

Join us as we welcome Kate Schroeder from Kansas City, Missouri! This two-day, demonstration and hands-on workshop will focus on how to treat a vessel as a canvas for sculptural and illustrative imagery. On Saturday morning we will begin the workshop with an artist talk about Kate's work and history. After the lecture we will begin the demonstration by using leather hard slabs to create vessels and sculptural elements. Upon completion of the vessels, Kate will then teach about using molds and nichrome wire to create sculptural details and how to create illustrations and narratives on clay surfaces with underglaze. We will finish the demonstration by explaining the concept of glaze fusing and how to implement it. On Sunday, following the demonstrations, students will get their hands into some clay and will use Kate's techniques to make their own work.
